Lucky Lottery Winner Scoops A World Record-Breaking $1.6bn In US Mega Millions
Someone is calling in sick to work this morning in South Carolina
How would you react if you woke up to the news that you were now a billionaire?
Well, one lucky South Carolina resident is in possession of a single lottery ticket which has scooped a world record-breaking $1.6bn (€1.4bn) jackpot in the US Mega Millions lottery.
The ticket matched all five numbers – 5, 28, 62, 65, 70 – and the Mega Ball 5 that were drawn on Tuesday night.
The winner – or winners if the ticket was purchased by a couple, family, or syndicate – will be given the choice of receiving an immediate cash payment of $904m or the full prize over a 29-year period.
If the winner of this mega prize is an individual and not a group, they would also earn a place on the Forbes’ billionaire rich list (they place about 1,477th on the list). This would put their net worth on a par with former NBA basketball star Michael Jordan.
It costs $2 (£1.50) to play the game but the odds of winning the grand prize are 302.5 million to one.
If this doesn’t inspire you to go by a lottery ticket, we don’t know what will.
