Sydney’s same-sex penguin couple have welcomed their first baby
The viral Australian lovebirds, Sphen and Magic are now parents!
The Sydney Aquarium has announced that the same-sex penguin couple has welcomed their fostered baby chick into the world.
Born on Oct. 19 at 5:45 p.m. weighing just 91 grams, the unnamed chick has also waddled into the history books as the attraction’s first sub-Antarctic penguin chick since the colony first joined the Darling Harbour family in November 2016.
The penguin chick has however received the temporary name, Sphengic (a mash-up of Sphen and Magic).
‘Baby Sphengic has already stolen our hearts!’ Tish Hannan, Penguin Department Supervisor at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium says.
‘We love watching the proud parents doting and taking turns caring for their baby chick.’
If two penguins can find love in this crazy world, then there is hope for all us still swiping right on Tinder. We’d like to wish Sphen and Magic the best of luck with parenthood, we have no doubt that they will be wonderful parents.
