WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns Relinquishes Title To Battle Leukaemia
WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns, real name Joeseph Anoa’i, vacated his title last night on Monday Night Raw after revealing he is battling leukaemia.
The 4 Time World champion had been diagnosed with the condition 11 years ago but had been in remission. He said that he can “no longer be a Fighting champion”.
He said the following when addressing the crowd last night;
“When I was 22 years old I was diagnosed with this and I was very quickly able to put it into remission. That was the hardest time of my life. I didn’t have a job, I didn’t have any money, I didn’t have a home and I had a baby on the way. Football was done with me and the only team to give me a chance was the WWE.
When I finally made it to the main roster and I was on the road they put me in front of you, the WWE Universe. And y’all have made my dreams come true. It didn’t matter if you cheered me or you booed me, you’ve always reacted to me and that’s the most important thing and for that, I have to say thank you so much.”
Roman told fans he wanted to make it clear that his announcement wasn’t a “retirement speech” and as soon as I’m done whoopin leukaemia’s ass again I’m coming home.
He concluded by saying that when he comes back; “It will not be about titles, or being on top. It’s about a purpose, I’m coming back because I want to show the world, my family, my friends, my children and my wife that when life throws a curveball at me I’m the type of man that will stand at the batters box, I will crowd the plate, I will choke up and Iwill swing for the fences every single time. Because i will beat this and I will be back. So you will see me very very soon. Once again thank you so much, god bless you and i love you. Believe That!”
And with that, every single last person got to their feet and applauded. Roman Reigns, the most hated man in professional wrestling had now been wiped from existance and we as a community stood behind Joseph Anoa’i who has been working day in day out over the past number of years with this condition all just to entertain us the fans. To echo this home further the usual boos directed at him had turned into a chant of ‘Thank You Roman’. He lay the championship in the center of the ring and walked up the ramp where he embrased his emotional Shield brothers, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.
I think I speak for the entire staff here at Trendster when I wish Roman a full and speedy recovery.
