Doherty A Doubt for Northern Ireland Clash

0

Matt Doherty is a doubt for Ireland’s upcoming matches against Northern Ireland and Denmark due to a facial injury.

Doherty suffered the injury just above his eye in Wolves 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the weekend. Doherty stayed with Wolves to have his injury assessed before joining up with Ireland Squad.

Martin O’Neil will likely be updated on his progress this evening and whether he will be joining up with the squad ahead of the Northern Ireland game which will see Glenn Whelan captain the Republic.

The return of Seamus Coleman to the squad means Doherty was most likely not the first choice right back for the upcoming matches. Alan Browne is the only other doubt amongst the players who made it into the squad after training by himself on Tuesday.

Shane Long and Derrick Williams pulled out of the squad due to injury while Ciaran Clarke is missing due to personal reasons.
