Former Arsenal star takes the reins at french side Monaco

Thierry Henry has been appointed as the new coach ao As Monaco, the Ligue 1 side announced.

Henry will take over the French side following the sacking of Leonardo Jardim earlier this week. The move sees Henry return to the club that he started his career at an leave his position as Roberto Martinez’s assistant with Belgium.

Henry will have to wait till after the international break to meet his full squad but the Frenchman says he is eager to get started. Henry has signed a deal that will keep him at Monaco till 2021 and will be joined by  Joao Carlos Valado Tralhao, under-23 coach at Benfica, and Patrick Kwame Ampadu, coach at the Arsenal Academy.

“In the first place, I thank AS Monaco for giving me the opportunity to coach the team of this club so special to me. I am very happy to come back to AS Monaco and extremely determined to meet the challenges ahead. I can not wait to meet the players to start working together. “said Henry.

Vadim Vasilyev, AS Monaco Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, says that Henry can count on  “our trust and all our support to bring a new dynamic to the team and carry out its mission.

Despite coming runners-up last year Monaco are currently in the relegation zone following three consecutive losses and only have six points from their opening nine games.
