Premier League Re-Cap: Mourinho feels the heat

Mourinho feels the heat as the hand of Bolly gives city title rivals hope.

Mourinho surprised many journalists on Friday afternoon when he showed up 30 minutes early for his weekly press conference. After a week of constant criticism, the United manager was in no mood to answer questions from the media giving short concise answers in a press conference that lasted only 8 minutes with many journalists not even in the room yet.

United’s Manchester rivals City were dealt a blow when they drew 1-1 with Wolves at Molineux this weekend. City went behind in the 57th minute when Willy Boly put the ball in the back of the net with the help of his hand off a Joao Moutinho cross.

City equalised 12 minutes later when Aymeric Laporte nodded in Ilkay Gundogan’s free kick. The draw gives hope to City’s title rivals who may have been handed a blueprint to beat city by wolves who are only the third side since the beginning of last season to register a double-figure shot tally against City.

Saturday’s meeting between Everton and Bournemouth ended up with both teams ending up with 10 men. Unfortunately for Fantasy football fans, Richarlison was one of the casualties for Everton after the Brazilian headbutted Bournemouth’s, Adam Smith. Putting a mark against his name after a great start with his new club which had seen him score three goals in two games and see him become a fantasy football favourite. Richarlison will now miss the next three games for Everton.

Elsewhere in the premier league Arsenal got there first win of the season against West Ham but the victory may hide the fact that it was more of the same from Unai Emery’s men. Both sides were very open and poor defensively and Arsenal were lucky to only conceed one goal against West Ham.

Manuel Pellegrini will be annoyed that his side didn’t come away from the game with at least a point after having numerous chances that could perhaps have seen his side win if his forwards had their shooting boots on.

Out of the two managers, Pellegrini will perhaps be the happier of the two. New £36m signing Felipe Anderson made a couple of great surging runs that split open Arsenal while Carlos Sanchez is a notable improvement over veteran  Mark Noble in the centre of the park. Created lots of chances

Despite the win, it was more of the same for Arsenal who gave West Ham plenty of space when they were on the ball. And when in possession pushed both fullbacks up the pitch leaving them susceptible to quick counter-attacks. Luckily for Emery West Hams forwards were lacking that final touch. The result leaves West Ham rock bottom of the league table with no points from their opening three games.

At the other end of the table, Watford have continued their flying start to league beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Vicarage road. Watford are level on points with Liverpool and Chelsea, and Tottenham the only other sides to not have dropped points in the opening three games of the Premier League season.

Mourinho would have been hoping for a victory against Tottenham on Monday night to ease the pressure on him but instead, we got another fiery press conference.

Unfortunately for the Portuguese national, Monday night saw Tottenham beat his  Manchester United side 3-0 at Old Trafford. After the game, Mourinho lost his temper with the media after repeated attempts from them to bait him into a controversial response on why he dropped his two center backs from last weekends defeat to Brighton. Mourinho pointed to his 3 premier league titles, more than any other manager in the league currently, should earn him the respect from the media, something he believes he has not been receiving in past weeks.

United have now earned just 3 points from their opening 3 games but it is clear the pressure is getting to Mourinho.
