Mick Schumacher has won the European Formula Three title with a race to spare
Mick Schumacher has won the European Formula Three title with a race to spare after clinching the title at Hockenheim on Saturday.
Schumacher the 19-year-old son of seven-times Formula One world Champion Michael came second place in the second race of the day was enough for the German to clinch the title with 347 points.
“Congratulations to Mick on winning the FIA Formula 3 European Championship title,” said Wolff.
Schumacher said he was grateful that he is getting to live his dream and that winning the championship was key for him coping with the attention that he has been receiving.
“I feel really grateful for what I’m able to live in this moment, to live this dream. We do what we love, so to also perform well in it is the best feeling you can get.
“I have the team behind me, and people I can go to for relaxing,” said Schumacher.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was amongst those who sent 19-year-old congratulatory messages saying “Attention was focused on the youngster right from the start, and he was under a lot of pressure. It’s not easy coping with all that, especially if the season does not get off to the best of starts, as in this case.
“His performance in the second half of the season was, therefore, all the more impressive. He has shown that he has what it takes and that he can become one of the greats in our sport.
Mick Schumacker’s father Michael was the most successful driver in F1 history but has not been seen in public since a skiing accident in France in December 2013 where he sustained severe head injuries.
