The weather has been exceptionally great in Ireland for the past few days and it looks to continue well into next week! Can we beat the hottest day ever recorded in Ireland (33.3 °C in June of 1887 at Kilkenny Castle)? What better time to write an article about the top 10 beaches in Ireland.
While the sun is out, and most exams are done, we thought we would share with you the best beaches across this sunny Island. Get that tan while you can, just remember to wear sunscreen as our frail Irish skin is not used to all this attention from the sun.
Barleycove Beach, Co. Cork
Kicking off this list is the impressive Barleycove beach located in West Cork. With its jewel-blue waters and warm sand, it is no wonder that this is one of the most sought-after beaches in Ireland. The shallow waters also make an excellent choice for those looking to dip their toes in the Irish waters.
Mulranny Strand, Co. Mayo
Located in Mayo, Mulranny Strand offers a little piece of seaside bliss that can only be appreciated in the good weather. This stunning beach offers you the best that the West has to offer and we recommend you get your towel down on the powder like sand A.S.A.P!
Portsalon Beach, Co. Donegal
Located in a Natural Heritage Area of Donegal, Portsalon beach is the perfect location for those looking to spend the day relaxing among the picturesque landscape. The golden sand and clear waters will make you feel as though you are on holidays in Spain. Not bad for an Irish beach.
Inchydoney Beach, Co. Cork
Cork brings us another unbelievably scenic location in its visually stunning Inchydoney Beach. This charming beach offers world-class views over the ocean as well as plenty of sand that is ideal for the weather that Ireland is currently experiencing.
Murder Hole Beach, Donegal
Granted, a bit tricky to get to, this Donegal Beach is worth the effort. Strandhill Beach
This one is for those looking to be active in the sunshine! Strandhill beach is a great spot for water activities such as surfing. There are surfing lessons available for those new to the sport. However, don’t worry if surfing is not your thing, the beach itself has plenty to offer by way of cosy sand and Atlantic views that would be the perfect setting for a seaside picnic.
Inch Beach, Co. Kerry
Kerry is home to some of the best views in Ireland and this beach is no different. Laid across miles of perfectly powdery sand Inch beach offers everything a sun worshiper would want. Definitely worth a visit!
Killiney Beach, Co. Dublin
It may be less sandy then some of the other beaches on this list but Killiney Beach is still a perfect getaway location. Located some 30 minutes from the City Centre, this beach is perfect after those long days in college or work.
Dog’s Bay, Co Galway
It really doesn’t get much better than this. Dog’s Bay beach is home to the whitest sand in Ireland, a rare sight in itself. This secluded beach is the ideal choice for all types of beachgoers.
