At any given time of the day, you can be guaranteed that at least one of the Kardashians or Jenners will be on the television if not all of them. I usually just flick past and then onto the next station when the attention craving family appears on my screen. However, yesterday for the first time, I didn’t flick past and instead, I tuned in to hear more about the youngest member of the Kardashian and Jenner family, Kylie Jenner.
Like most people, when I think about Kylie and the rest of the Jenner and Kardashian family I think of nothing more than big egos, drama, and gossip. They are a family who happily spent years doing whatever it takes to remain in the spotlight, and to be honest, I’ve never really understood the attraction of them all.
However, after spending some time listening to Kylie speak about her business (Kylie Cosmetics) and her early success in the business world I realised, that behind the selfies, the outfits and the paparazzi shots, there lies one of the most innovative young entrepreneurs of our time.
At just 20-years-old, Kylie Jenner is already the CEO, CCO, and CMO of ‘Kylie Cosmetics’ a company which Kylie formed into an industry giant just months after launching.
Kylie launched the beauty brand in 2015 with her flagship product the $29 Kylie Lip Kit. Over the last three years the company has raked in hundreds of millions of dollars, and it is already being projected that the business will hit $1 billion in lifetime sales by the year 2022. This is quite remarkable considering that one of the biggest makeup and cosmetic brands in the world, L’Oréal’s Lancôme, only reached the $1 billion mark in 2015, after 80 years in business.
Leaving aside Kylie Cosmetics, Jenner also has a number of other ventures that are helping her on her way to becoming the youngest-ever self-made billionaire. These ventures include her paid app, merchandise sold exclusively through her online store (The Kylie Shop), two apparel lines with sister Kendall Jenner, a book series and partnerships with retail brands like Puma. It is fair to say, Kylie is not messing about when it comes to leaving her mark on the business world.
It is hard to ignore the fact that the Jenners and Kardashians had, and still have a bottomless pit of money to help Kylie kickstart her business, however, it is important to look behind the name and the money for a moment. Kylie Cosmetics in an industry leader and Kylie has developed a creative product and used multiple innovative marketing techniques to make to help make this happen. All the money in the world would not have bought the success her business has seen since launch. It is very clear that Kylie is one of the brightest young business minds of our time.
When it comes to young entrepreneurs leaving their mark on the world, there aren’t many names that stick out more than Kylie Jenner. She may have spent years chasing the limelight, but she has turned it into her very own beauty empire. She deserves far more recognition for her outstanding success in the business world.
