7 must have products to get your skin through winter
Winter is here, which means shorter days, longer nights and dryer skin, so it’s time to switch up your daily skincare regime. During the winter months, the air is dryer and the rate of humidity drops, this combined with exposure to indoor heating systems equates to total skin malfunction. Our skin becomes dehydrated resulting in cracks, blotches and even inflammation. However, fear not as I have 7 products to help tackle those treacherous winds and have you facing the outdoors in no time.
And finally, last but by no means least, drink water! Our body is about 60% water and it is important to maintain this otherwise we become dehydrated causing headaches and dry skin. During these cold, dark days we are inclined to go for a cup of coffee or tea to warm and wake us up, however it is important to still drink two litres of water every day.
5 Soap & Glory Butter Yourself Body Cream 300ml €13.00
During winter we have a tendency to prioritise the maintenance of our facial skin and soften the skin on the rest of our body is neglected, hidden under layers of clothes resulting in dry and itching legs and arms. This body butter is perfect for smoothing out dry and cracked skin partially on our legs. For best results, apply the butter after a shower when your skin is still damp, this allows for the product to melt making application easier and it is better absorbed locking in moisture. And from a pure value for money standpoint, this product comes in a pot so there’s no waster, unlike squeezy bottles you can scrape out every last bit.
4 Ordinary Retinol 0.5%/1% In Squalane Serum €6.70
Similarly to eye cream, serum is another product that some people are sceptical about, well don’t be. Serums provide anti-aging benefits and an extra layer of moisture. This Ordinary serum is a must have and an absolute steal at only €6.70! The product contains Retinol which reduces the appearance of ageing with impressive results, however, Ordinary advises that newcomers to this product with sensitive skin opt for the 0.5% Retinol initially to allow their skin to adapt to the chemical. One of the other significant ingredients in the serum, Squalane, is a plant-derived solution that retains moisture in the skin and leaves it looking supple.
3 Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask €3.00
This a great face mask for those miserable winter evenings when you come home and you’re tired and your skin looks even more tired and all you want to do is watch Netflix and chill. Simply apply the mask to a clean face, leave it on for 15 minutes while you relax and peel off, no need to get up off the couch and scrub your face afterwards just massage the remains of the product into your skin. The mask is made of 100% natural cellulose fibre tissue saturated with hydrating ingredients to quench your skin’s thirst and leave it looking radiant. Also, this product is constantly on 3 for 2 offers in Boots so keep an eye out.
2 Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado €28.00
I know a lot of people in their late teens/ early twenties see eye cream as an extra expense, something they won’t need to use for another ten years. No, the time is now to start using eye cream and here’s why; the skin around our eyes is the most delicate on our body thus it is the first area where we show signs of ageing. While this product may appear kind of pricy it is worth the investment, the avocado and shea butter deeply hydrate the eye area, locking in moisture, lightening dark circles and reducing crow’s-feet. A pot of this eye cream should last you at least six months, you only need a pea size amount twice a day.
1 St Ives Apricot Face Scrub €5.99
This award-winning product has been a favourite of mine for years. You only need to use it 2-3 times a week depending on your skin, it deeply exfoliates skin banishing blemishes and blackheads. As it’s not a daily exfoliator it has a rougher texture than others exfoliator but it will leave your skin feeling smooth and fresh. For best results use this product at night before bed and your skin will appear rejuvenated in the morning.
