Why is SPF so Important!?
I want to talk to you about why it is so important to add SPF into your skincare routine, not just in hot summer months, but all year round!
Ever since I got into beauty, skincare etc, I have learnt a lot about SPF and why it is important.
The first thing I learnt about SPF, is that UV rays come in three forms: UVA, UVB, and UVC.
UV rays make up a small percentage of the sun’s rays which causes sun cancer or even sunspots.
UVA rays cause fine lines and wrinkles, and UVB rays are linked with sunburn and skin cancer.
UVC rays, rarely get through the earth’s atmosphere but all have the potential to cause skin cancers like melanoma.
Did you know that it only takes 20 minutes for unprotected skin to start to burn!? Yes, while no SPF can block all UV rays, wearing it daily – and reapplying often – is a must for protecting your skin. SPF 15 can block up to 93 per cent of all incoming UVB rays and SPF 50 filters out up to 98 per cent.
The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that up to 40 per cent of the sun’s UV rays reach the earth on a cloudy day! So even when it’s overcast, reach for moisturizers, serums, and other skin care products containing an SPF of at least 15. These products can help protect your skin from UV damage in an everyday capacity. Below I will leave some recommendations for good SPF’S!
